"Desacralized"
Galerie Philia x kar
Oracle Bone Scripti
kar created the "Oracle Bone Script" funiture collection inspired by China's oldest script. The wooden structure of the furniture is reminiscent of the muscles and bones of the archaic writings, which are decomposed and refined from the orginal symbolic form, transforming the strokes into an ancient yet modern, heavy yet flexible framework, of which the surface is decorated with multiple layers of Chinese lacquer with a unique texture exudes the vicissitudes of time - the external together with the inner form of these work jointly convey a mysterious and fascinating power. In this series, the chair piece has a simple yet intriguing structure, evoking the mysterious imaginations of archaic animal bones, while it is painted with greyish-white lacquer, creating a quaint texture as if having undergone the abrasions of weather, showing a deep sense of history. Oracle bone scripts were used in the Shang Dynasty to record imperial divination, and then gradually disappeared. This distant and ancient form of writing has evolved into an artistic symbol, implying the roots of Chinese calligraphy art, flowing like and endless river to this day. In kar's furniture, it is ncondensed in the form of abstract simplicity in the newly created entity, no longer sophisticated - it is placed in the space of our mundane life, to be touched by our hands, and to support our bodies, in countless ordinary moments, we are ready to connect with this ancient cultural form, and this is kar's understanding of the notion of "Desacralization" in the context of this "Oracle Bone Script" collection.
